It's National Agriculture Week... but today many farmers stepped away from the fields and headed to the North American Farm and Power Show.News 12's Jennifer Hudspeth was there and shows us green technology that's leading the way towards the future of farming.Today these Farmers aren't planting in their fields...instead they're planting seeds of knowledge.Steve Guenthner says, "It's a business, it's not just farming like it used to be, you've got to know how to run your business."As the business changes so does the technology...This year at the North American Farm and Power Show many farmers are leaning towards a new direction.Tony Dahl says, "Go Green, Think Green..."And thinking green can start with a green tractor...This new John Deere model is on the right course... it runs on tracks, making it more fuel-efficient.Dahl says, "It has its own field cruise so in the field if it needs more horsepower it'll raise the rpm's of the engine, if it needs less it will lower it down and we're going to see about a 15 to 20 percent fuel savings over what we've previously been using."And going green doesn't stop with just equipment... a new stimulus package is helping farmers run their own electricity.Dave Thorp says, "We're just trying to tell people about this incentive package from the government because it's not well known that it's out there."It's a tax free grant from the Obama Administration for farmers who install a wind turbine on their property...Within 60 days farmers will get 30 percent of the cost paid back to them... a deal many say is too good to pass up.Thorp says, "You're locking in your electric rate so you're basically a producer of your own power, if the electric rates go higher in the coming years you've got a fixed cost."Cost savings and green incentives to keep more green in your wallet....Guenthner says, "The future is renewable the way it looks to me on everything so it's very important that everyone get on the bandwagon and look at alternatives and options."Options to help keep the farm and the environment healthy...In Owatonna, Jennifer Hudspeth News 12.
