Senate Passes Jobs Bill

The senate is sending the first of several promised election-year jobs bills to President Obama for his signature. The bill passed today on a vote of 68-29.It would provide a temporary payroll tax holiday to companies that hire and would pump $20 billion into the federal highway construction fund to make up for low gasoline tax revenues.Eleven republicans joined the democrats to pass the bill... a trend the president would like to see continue.President Obama says, 'I hope that on a series of future steps that we take to help small businesses get finances, to help improve our infrastructure around the country, to put people back to work we're going to see more progress on that front.'The measure would also give employers an additional $1,000 credit if new workers stay on the job a full year.
