The Independence Party is backing a three-term mayor in a special state senate election in southern Minnesota....and it's a familiar name to all of us.Waseca Mayor Roy Srp made it official this morning as he filed in St. Paul to run in the Jan. 26 special election in senate district 26, the seat being vacated by Republican Sen. Dick Day.Srp is a former democrat who joined the Independence party in 1997.He says he would like to see the state cut spending and avoid Tax increases.He says neither Democrats nor Republicans have solved Minnesota's financial problems.Candidate filing for the special election opens today and runs through Dec. 29.The state senate district includes the cities ofFaribault, Owatonna and Waseca.
