Local seniors got a free check-up today thanks to a couple organizations.News 12's Kira Klapper tells us why the local seniors weren't the only ones benefiting.A free health check-up brought a larger than normal crowd to the Summit Center today.Patient Harold Schuchard says, ''I take advantage of it whenever I can.''And Harold Schuchard isn't alone.Dozens of folks came to take advantage of blood pressure checks, ear care, and blood glucose screenings... all done by MSU Nursing Students under the supervision of their clinical instructors.In a time of high gas prices, food, and medicine, this one-stop healthcare shop is just what the doctor ordered.Junice Thompson uses VINE transportation and came especially for the relaxing foot care clinic.Patient Junice Thompson says, ''I'm a diabetic, and I realize how important it is to take care of your feet.''Schuchard says, ''It is very, very, very great, because, otherwise, I have to try to do it myself, and that doesn't work too good.''''The MSU Nursing Students say the patients aren't the only ones to benefit from these free Health Check-Ups.''MSU Nursing Student Jackie Schriever says, ''I think it's great for all of us to get practice because there are so many diverse things you can do within healthcare and then to get so many different opportunities to work with all these people.''Angie Mott says, ''It's a wonderful opportunity for them to get some great experience, and it's a great opportunity for folks in the Mankato area to come in and get some professional care. ...it's a win-win situation for both sides.''In Mankato, Kira Klapper, News 12.All are welcome to two upcoming Free Health Check-Ups at the Summit Center... next Tuesday, September 23rd, and on Wednesday October 1st.There will also be free checkups in St. Peter on October 7th and in Nicollet on October 8th.Appointment times are limited, and reservations are suggested.You can call VINE at 507- 387- 1666 to reserve a time and even to arrange for a volunteer driver if you need a ride.
